Jatoba is native to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The tree is well known for its strong and durable wood, which is widely used in the manufacture of high-quality furniture and decorative items. Jatoba is also popularly known as Brazilian Cherry or South American Cherry, although it does not produce true cherries. The fruit is actually a legume belonging to the Fabaceae family. Inside the hard outer shell is an edible pulp with a dry, powdery texture that dissolves easily in water or milk. When eaten raw, the pulp may stick slightly to the mouth, so some people prefer to add sugar for a sweeter and more pleasant flavor. The fruit is rich in starch and proteins, making it both nutritious and unique. Jatoba fruit plants are now available in Kerala at our farms. Botanical Name: Hymenaea courbaril Country of Origin: Brazil Fruit Color: Brown
