Grumichama is a beautiful evergreen fruit tree native and wild to the coastal regions of southern Brazil, especially in the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina. It is also cultivated in areas such as Rio de Janeiro and Paraguay. Over time, it has been introduced to several tropical regions including Jamaica, Singapore, and parts of Florida, though it has shown limited success in some locations. The tree produces small, round, dark-purple fruits with a sweet and pleasant flavor. However, the fruit contains a relatively large seed compared to its flesh, and the persistent sepals can make harvesting less convenient. Today, Grumichama is appreciated more as an ornamental and rare fruit plant due to its attractive foliage, hardiness, and unique fruit characteristics. It is now also available in select farms in Kerala, India for cultivation and study. Scientific Name: Eugenia brasiliensis Family: Myrtaceae Fruit Color: Dark-purple Origin: Brazil (coastal southern regions)
