Cardamom plant, scientifically known as Elettaria cardamomum, is one of the most valuable and aromatic spice plants in the world. Often called the “Queen of Spices,” cardamom is widely used in cooking, beverages, and traditional medicine for its rich flavor and fragrance. The plant is a perennial herb belonging to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It grows in clumps with long, green, lance-shaped leaves and produces small pale flowers. The prized part of the plant is its green seed pods, which contain tiny black seeds known for their sweet, spicy, and slightly citrusy flavor. The cardamom plant thrives in tropical, humid climates and is extensively cultivated in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Thrives in subtropical/tropical climates. Prefers full sun and well-drained fertile soil.

Planting

Dig pits 1–1.5 ft deep. Mix soil with Vermicompost. Maintain 2–3 meters spacing between plants.
