Garcinia indica , commonly known as Kokum, is a tropical evergreen fruit tree native to the western coastal regions of India. It is widely grown in states such as Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra for its nutritious fruits and medicinal properties. The tree grows medium in height with thick green leaves and produces small round fruits that turn dark purple to reddish-black when ripe. The fruit has a sour and slightly sweet taste and is widely used in cooking and traditional drinks. The dried fruit rind is commonly used as a natural souring agent in curries, while the fruit is also used to prepare kokum juice, syrups, and refreshing summer drinks.
